About Myself
Hello, my name is Liam Font. A 23 year old scooterist from Jersey. Scooters have been a passion of mine from a very young age. You could say it is in my blood along with the culture. I grew up listening to The Who, The Specials, Madness amongst many others and still listen to these artists today. There is nothing like hearing a bit of Madness on a night out. Especially, when you have a group of oldies looking at you thinking how does this lad know the lyrics to these songs!
At the age of 3, my dad and I would do circuits of the estate where we lived, on his Vespa Rally 180, with me standing on the footboards holding on to the handlebars. This is where it all began. From 9 years of age there was never a ride out I missed and enjoyed helping my dad fix a problem on the scooters. Now working on the scooters myself I completely understand the pain my dad went through when something wouldn't work. I also learnt the different models of Vespa and Lambretta of by heart and still know all of the models to this day. My mum always used to tell me if only I could have taken an exam in this at school. I attended my first Jersey Scooter Club Sunday ride out, meeting at the St Helier Harbour. I was the youngest in the group and I still cherish to this day how everyone welcomed me to the scene with open arms.
At the age of 16 on my Vespa PK 50 I could now officially join the Sunday Ride Out without having to try and force my dad to join me every week. My freedom had arrived. I remember I led the pack to Gorey, which is one of our parishes here in Jersey. It felt surreal that I could finally choose to go out for a spin when I wanted to. Unfortunately, on my little 50CC I couldn't always keep up, but everyone waited for me. They were and still are a great bunch of people.
I still have this scooter and it brings back memories of a 16 year old me whenever I ride it. I took my Vespa PK 50 to the 2017 Jersey Scooter Rally and 2017 Guernsey Scooter Rally, which was my first scooter rally across the water. A year later, when I turned 17, I was gifted a 1988 Vespa PX by a very good friend of ours. The scooter hadn't seen daylight in quite a few years and only had 900 miles on the clock, which made it almost brand new. The scooter was covered in surface rust. But I already had a colour scheme in mind. I was inspired by the 80's Scooter Boy look. I bought a King and Queen seat, put indicator grills on the indicators and have now just bought a Gordon fly screen for it. It is a very reliable scooter and fails to breakdown on me. This scooter came with me to the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally in 2018 and never missed a beat, driving from Portsmouth to Poole to get on the Isle of Wight Ferry.
By the age of 18 I had my full bike licence. This meant I could now ride any of my dad's scooters as well as my own. My dad knows he does not have a say in the matter anymore.
I have attended scooter rallies in Jersey, Guernsey, which is a great rally and one not to be missed, and the Isle of Wight. I must say they are always great fun and I always come back with great memories. My first scooter rally was Jersey 2011. I attended the Saturday and Sunday ride outs, which took us around Jersey's coastline. I was 10 years old at the time and this was the first occasion I met scooterists from Europe and the UK. Jersey Scooter Club then hosted rallies in 2016, 2017 and 2018. The rallies were well attended by enthusiasts from all over, with faces returning each year as they enjoyed it so much.
In 2017 and 2018 I attended the Guernsey Scooter Rallies . These were once again well attended with immense camaraderie amongst all. Guernsey like Jersey has a fabulous coastline along with many interlinking roads.
In 2018, I attended the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally which is always one I will remember. I entered my Vespa PX (which is pictured above) in the custom show. Although, I didn't win, I enjoyed seeing the other customised scooters. You do have to appreciate the artwork. After one ride out we ended up on the green in Ryde. There were thousands of scooters and as a 17 year old I spent hours walking and studying the ideas and finished products that surrounded me on the green. The pubs were packed with scooterists and the sound of The Specials or Madness was always not too far away. Unfortunately, being only 17 the bouncers would give a shake of the head. There was no way I was getting in. So I had to spend the evenings looking through the window. I will be posting about other rallies I have attended on this website.

I hope you have enjoyed reading a little bit about myself, and I welcome you to my website.
