Fork rebuild and Spraying
Finally, the new parts I ordered for the GT have started to arrive, meaning I can start to build the forks and work on other areas before the new parts for the engine arrive. Due to problems with the original engine, we are starting fresh and I will post updates in the very near future. Firstly, I put the new front brake shoes on as the old ones had definitely seen better days. These were straight forward to replace and fitted like a glove. I also added the new grease nipples on the forks and filled these with new grease.

When the scooter arrived, my dad and I noticed how the paint work was quite rough with some areas not being sprayed and other areas needing some attention. We started by rubbing down the glove box and lid, and for this we used a fine 1500 sandpaper, just to smooth down the top layer of paint as it contained speckles and if not rubbed down would show through the new layer of paint. When this was completed it was time to work on the headset and clutch tube. The headset was not sprayed and the clutch tube had only been primed by the previous owner. Looking at the top of the headset we noticed a groove had been worn in where the speedo sits. In this instance we knew it was best to use filler to level the surface. Possibly there had been a flyscreen on the scooter previously which had caused the groove. Once dry we rubbed the filler down so it sat level with the headset. It was then time to spray.
Now I would say it was me that completed the first part of spraying, but it was actually my dad who completed the first spray, as we did not know how the new paint would match with the original scooter colour. The headset, glove box and clutch tube were given at least 4 to 5 coats each. In between each spray we had to leave the paint to set otherwise the paint would run. On inspection of my dad's spray job, we agreed it did not look too bad. There were still some discrepancies but knew these could be buffed out. Hopefully these are the only parts which will have to be resprayed.
Please stay tuned for the next part of the build!
